First Major Injury :(

Drew was staying at Grandma Barbara's house for the weekend (Jaime's mom) and she has an older dog that isn't a fan of hugs unfortunately. The dog ended up biting Andrew right in the lower right cheek. He was rushed to their local ER in Willits (about 4 hours from dad and myself). I got the call around 10:30pm and there is nothing worse in this world than your child getting hurt and you are so far away and can't be there for him. They ended up suturing it closed, prescribed some antibiotics and sent him on his way.

On Monday, I got a hold of Barbara and we all thought it would be best if he came home a day early since he was starting to not act like himself and was in a lot of pain. My mom and I met them halfway from our house and theirs and when I saw Drew, I knew something wasn't right. His cheek had become swollen and red but again, he was just at the ER the night prior so maybe this was his body healing? I wasn't sure. He slept most of the way home and I commenced with the snuggles and Tylenol regimen once we got there.

The next day, Drew was barely speaking, didn't want to eat or drink and his cheek was very red and swollen. I gave him a bath and also noticed the red coloring had spread down the right side of his neck accompanied with a low grade fever of 100.5 and pain on the area...not a good sign. I called his pediatrician immediately and he said to bring him in asap. His dad, Sotirios and myself all met there to see what was going on. As soon as Doctor Cohan saw his face, he told us we needed to take him to the ER and get some IV antibiotics in him right away. Here's where our next week's journey begins...

Rest In Peace Grandpa Hill

HILL, Emeral “Lee”
October 11, 1933 – June 13, 2014

What a life this guy had.  He was born in Tulsa OK and his family moved to California in 1941.  He worked most of his life beginning as a paperboy for the Sacramento Bee during war time and later worked as a bus boy in the local restaurants.  All during high school and the first year of his married life, he worked at the Triangle Gas Station in Carmichael.  He then entered the milk business working for Inderkum’s Dairy and Crystal Dairy as a route driver until he retired at age 55.  He retired young so he could play with cars.

Lee was good at many things including bowling, horseshoe pitching, waterskiing, rollerskating, and restoring old cars.  Lee had always been a car hobbyist.  He collected and restored cars from the early horseless carriages to the cars of the 1950s.  Each one was a reflection of his skills.  His 1914 Mitchell speedster, a brass automobile with snake horns, was a favorite.  His most challenging restoration because of its rarity was his 1939 V-12 7-passenger Packard.

Lee belonged to many car clubs and held offices and served as a board member for the Nor. Cal. Horseless Carriage Club where he was a member for over 50 years.

Lee was a member of the first graduating class of El Camino High School.  His one claim to fame was being the first water skier on Folsom Lake and his photo was published in the Sacramento Bee.

Lee leaves behind his wife of nearly 58 years, Edith “Sue” Hill, son Michael Hill (Marianna) of Las Vegas, and daughters Denise Hill of Shingle Springs, Sandy Maye (Jack) of Carmichael and Sharon Langford (Tom) of Folsom.  He was predeceased by his daughter Diana Dent (Ken).   He is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.   His love of family was his greatest joy.

The family thanks Dr. Roger Mar-Tang, Kaiser Permanente, and Ana Yazdani, RN, First Call Hospice, for their gracious and exceptional care of our husband and father.

A Birthday Present for Dad

Drew thought it would be fun this year to make his dad matching Viking Swords and Shields (he has quite the affinity for How to Train Your Dragon right now). Thanks to the best step dad in the whole world, Sotirios, who lent his carpentry skills, Drew was able to make it happen!

Happy birthday, dad!!
