Drew the Mad Scientist!

Drew was invited to a birthday party but not any ordinary kid's birthday party...a villain birthday party. So we got to work making him the most epic of evil costumes. Introducing...Doctor Professor Doom!

You might be a redneck...

See Drew. See Drew braid my hair.

OK...so more of a "twist" that stays in place than a braid per say. He's amazing :)

Now THAT'S a Party for a 5 year old!

Two long weeks after Drew's original party was to commence (delayed to the birthday boy being horribly sick), we were finally able to welcome Drew into his 5th year of life! Here's a little peek at the madness and most awesome of parties if I do say so myself :)

The invitation

The Favors (I made the kids all masks and capes so their identities would be forever hidden!)

The Scene

The Cake

The Guests

The Villian
The Evil Professor Chaos wanted to ruin the party for the Superheros! Good thing officer Nick Maurer was there to hand out special police badges and Silly string so the heros could thwart the evil doer's scheme. He was promptly arrested...and I'm pretty sure I am still deaf from the kids squeals :)

The Presents

Andrew could not be a luckier little boy. We are so thankful for our families and the love that constantly surrounds this kid!

Long First Day Back At School

Drew has been out of school over a week so you could imagine how ready he was to be back playing with his friends! This happened about 6 minutes after being in the car on the drive home. I can't say that I am not a fan of couch snuggles when he's asleep :)

Drew's Special Mother's Day Gift to Me :)

This text was sent to me from Brad's girlfriend's mom Barbara about my Mother's Day gift pictured: "Andrew was looking at stuff in a little store while we were getting my car washed. He was fascinated by the brush and i asked if he thought you would like one from him. His eyes lit up and he said yes. He picked your favorite color, blue. The clerk overheard and said to me Andrew could just have it. But I whispered no, that he was going to buy it himself. So i had Drew take the money up. He asked me first how to do it so I walked him through it. He told the clerk he wanted to buy it for his mommy for mothers day and handed him the money. It was very sweet. He's been keeping it with him ever since, (using the mirror and brushing his hair) and he didn't forget it this morning! You're a blessed mom :)"

What a way to bring in Drew's 5th Year :(

I stayed up working on Drew's cake the night before his party until 3am, the balloon house was delivered bright and early the morning of his party and everyone was very excited to come...until Drew woke up with a fever and started vomiting. I had no choice but to reschedule the party :( Drew was disappointed to say the least (so was I!) but I just couldn't chance getting the other kids sick with what Drew had. I got busy with making the phone calls, got my mommy nurse had on and put the kid back to bed.

He woke up many hours later. We wanted to put a smile on his face so we let him open a couple presents from us. This particular Switch-and-Go Dino was one "I just wanted this for my whole life"

He was out of school for a whole week! I'm not sure what he caught, but it was nasty. I took him to the Med7 doctors on Wednesday since we couldn't get an appointment with his normal doctor (I suspected the fever was still coming from an ear infection that never really went away). The doctor said the right ear drum was inflamed, but not enough to justify an antibiotic. I took him to his normal doc on Friday and a double ear infection was confirmed...great. Back on the nasty pink medication for Drew! He did manage to finally creep out of our bed long enough to hang on the couch with me :)

In Drew's mind, he is still 4 since he didn't have a party yet. This was confirmed when I told him, "Since you're now 5, you have to eat at least 5 bites of this banana." to which he replied, "I haven't had a party yet, so I am still 4. That's 4 bites, mommy." What am I going to do with this smart cookie?

He is doing MUCH better since being on the antibiotics so back to school he goes after being gone over a week and we are back in party planning mode to make it the best 5 year old make-up party ever!

A letter from me to our big 5 year old

Drew,

5 years ago today, I was humbled in a way that I never expected. Since then, I've been puked on, peed on and pooped on (one time in my hair). I've traded normal sleep and shower patterns for crappy late night television when you had no interest in rest between the hours of 1am and 4am. I've slept with a leg across my face and had one inch of mattress to call my own when your bad dreams get the best of you, and I've spent countless uncomfortable nights sleeping on your floor when you were sick. You've brought me to tears many times both in frustration and happiness but that one moment...when you were just learning to talk and you told me you loved me back for the very first time, made all of that worth it. It's been one interesting and epic ride being your mommy and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat without changing a single thing (well, maybe the poop in my hair incident). You've made me proud of the person you are growing to become and I wanted to thank you for being a huge part in making me the person I am today and helping me realize life's true priorities. Happy 5th birthday, Drewski. I love you "to Wall-e's world and back" - Mommy

Birthday Eve

We are starting a new fun tradition in our house...birthday morning balloon showers! We filled this with a ton of balloons and attached it to the ceiling and Drew's door. He comes out in the morning, opens the door and BAM...balloon shower.
